Exhibition Report: “shiseido art egg 14th” by Shoko Hashimoto at Shiseido Gallery (Ginza area)
資生堂ギャラリーでは、今年も新進アーティストを応援する「shiseido art egg」展が始まっています。11月22日(日)まで、橋本晶子さんの個展が開催中です。
This year’s “shiseido art egg” exhibition has started. A solo show by Shoko Hashimoto will be on view until November 22.
精密に描かれた鉛筆画がいたるところに展示されたギャラリースペースには、静謐な空気がただよいます。薄暗い空間にポツリと灯る電球と、それに照らされた壁面の作品たち。実体のある風景を見ているのか、それとも幻覚なのか、一瞬わからなくなります。
With the extremely detailed pencil drawings hung everywhere on the walls, the gallery space is filled with a calm, quiet atmosphere. Looking at a piece of work on the wall, lit by a lone light bulb in the dim corner of the room, one cannot tell for a moment, if what’s in front of them is real or not.
紙のもつ軽やかさと脆さ、鉛筆の繊細な線と影のような存在感。それらがアーティストの手仕事を通して、幽玄なムードの作品を作り上げています。静けさと落ち着きのなかにも、どことなく不安をさそう不思議な作風を、ぜひ実際に体験してください。
With the lightness and fragility of paper and the delicate lines and shadowy presence of pencil as medium of her choice, Hashimoto’s artistry created works of art with such subtle and profound moods. Experience first-hand the intriguing taste of her art, which, in its calmness, somehow triggers the viewer’s uneasiness.

Shiseido Gallery is a contemporary art gallery run by Shiseido, global cosmetic manufacturer from Japan, with its activity policy “to discover and create a new beauty.” Since its foundation in 1919, they have run as a non-profit gallery throughout its long history. In 2001, they moved to the basement level of Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building, and they are the largest exhibition space in Ginza area up until now.
